The other day I was browsing the internet for activities to do next week while the hubs is on vacation.  With no plans to go away, we’re having a stay-cation and I’m really excited for it.  New York City has tons of things to do.  With both of us being native New Yorker’s, it’s kind of embarrassing that we haven’t fully explored the gems located in our backyard, so we’re going to experience being tourists in our city!

As I was searching the web, I came across a free introduction to Latin dance workshop centered around healing and empowerment.  Timing couldn’t have been more perfect.  With the would-be due date of my pregnancy loss approaching this week, I’ve been feeling that I needed all the healing possible.  It was scheduled the following day {yesterday} so I immediately signed up for it.

So yesterday rolls around and NYC was hit with a horrible thunder storm right when I needed to leave for the workshop.  I toyed with the idea of whether or not I should still go.  I even updated my facebook status saying “I must be 50 shades of crazy for wanting to leave my house in this weather when I really don’t have to” (and quite a few friends validated my craziness).

Well, something pushed me in that moment to go and I am so glad I did.  I had a blast!   The instructor, Carmen Robles Herrera, owner of Dashimo was phenomenal.  I have always wanted to take Latin dance, but this class was different because Carmen really got us moving and encouraged us to feel a connection to the universe and ourselves.  We learned the basic skills of Merengue, Bachata, and Salsa.  The dancing was so therapeutic.  I felt in the moment, alive, and free.  I left the workshop feeling warm inside and now I’m really hoping to sign up for her 5-week Latin Dance course {finger’s crossed}.

Has anyone else used dance therapy to get through a difficult situation?
